Red Sox Hat, Yankees T-shirt
By Paul | April 20, 2010
America is the greatest nation in the world. Name the metric and I will argue we own it. We still manufacture more than any other country. Who pays for tragedies, such as what we just saw in Haiti, some ass in this world gets uppity and starts trouble and who dispatches a carrier battle group capable of persuading any jerk he really needs to play nice with the rest of the world. No worries, we have twelve in reserve every time we deploy one, 90,000 tons of diplomacy.
The worlds breadbasket still includes America’s midwest; need someone on the moon, been there-done that; need an Airliner, go Boeing, its American and AirBus takes several countries, the whole European Union thing.
So I go to El Salvador with friends and family this last spring and was testing folks for distance acuity. The folks there endure heat non stop so all the men wear hats, often baseball hats. One gentleman came through with US flag and when he saw me he pointed at the hat and said “America, I love America.” Many of the shirts, hats, and other garments, clearly donated had a distinct American theme. I have often thought I wanted to take as many Indians and Browns hats and get rid of the Damn Yankees hats. If your offended rest easy, Damn Yankees is a wonderful musical.
But the one that caught my eye this year was gentlemen who came through wearing a Boston Red Sox hat and New York Yankees hat. Well, let me tell you I would have given anything for some Cleveland Indians Gear but it was wonderful to see American icons like that so prominent. I doubt that this gentlemen understood the irony of wearing these rivals icons at the same time. If you are a Sox or Yankees fans, be proud, personally i still do not love the Sox and especially the Yankees and I will get Indians stuff down there in due course but, y’all be proud nevertheless.
