The Cleveland Browns
By Paul | March 18, 2009
A strange thing has happened to my most fervent love, the Cleveland Browns. Recently a new coach was hired, a move with which I reluctantly agreed; K2 was traded, mixed feelings but I got it; Joe was released, beyond comprehension to me but I accept that I will disagree with some moves; and now we hear they might trade Brady Quinn. BQ is arguably the most valuable, non-playing player in the NFL. He is the light on this team, the hope that if he and Edwards get on the same page and Edwards shakes off a bad year, they could be an incredible tandem. If the running game is used more effectively, or hell, just used, this offense could be something special. DA, arguably a really nice guy has trade value. Trade him to a new spot where he will be able to blossom. He is talented but he needs to learn to be a leader and not on my dime. But if Brady goes, he is our QB and our team will struggle, not necessarily because of DA but because of a general lack of leadership.
I love the Browns but this stuff isn’t brain surgery. The biggest problem we had with Butch, and Romeo, and it is looking like our new one is this “my way or the highway” mentality. I am convinced this is not that hard. You run the ball on first down. You pass the ball on second and select the best option on third down. You take big swipes now and again knowing they are low percentage and you master the third and short passes. You run run run to keep the D honest and because this is Cleveland, we run the ball. Show them films of Bernie, Brenan, Slaughter, Mack, Byner, and Langhorne.
Make adjustments when you see what the Defense will do but stop being stupid. This is a man’s game; man up and play. And back to my start, what is the strange thing I am going through, the passion is less, I never thought my love for the team would diminish but I am not sure I recognize this team anymore. I hope this fall they give me a reason to live and die with them. This fall, they have got to win. NO REBUILDING, the time is now!
