A Day in September
By Paul | September 26, 2008
According to some reports on the web the vast majority of blogs get started with a rush of enthusiasm and then simply whither and die as the writer moves off to find another project. And let’s face it, many writers do struggle with the discipline it takes to launch a project (the easy part), keep investing time and effort in the project (tougher), and finally, polishing and delivering a final that is publishable and which will interest others.
This blog has been started several times, I have changed and tweaked it but done precious little writing. One of my hang ups is that I love creating finished projects so when I set out to write a book (life long dream) I get totaly hung up over the lay it out. When I work on my web writing I get hung up over coding the page. That is one reason I have my own URL and hosting for PerfectClevelandDay.
Now I have been put to shame by a colleague. He is a web developer, much stronger coder than I, and probably not as anxious to be a writer per se. He started a blog and immediately has tons of entries, well written and looking good. His site is called Why Cleveland.
He provided motivation in two ways. One was to get busy and put my voice out on the things that matter to me, knowing hopefully some comments will come back, perhaps some in disagreement, particularly when I share thoughts on the politics of the day.
Two, he is from Cincinnati and is writing wonderful things about Cleveland. I started PerfectClevelandDay because I was homesick for Cleveland but living in Dallas. I got the idea for the name from a site called PerfectDuluthDay. I now live in Cleveland, but may end up in Dallas and am spending quite a bit of time between the two. Thanks to Why Cleveland I realize I can have dual loyalties between these two great cities, just as he does between Northern Ohio and Southern Ohio.
In my next blog entry I will discuss the things that mean a lot to me and what I am going to write about.
Hey, look, it’s a beautiful day in Cleveland!
